Questions Pertaining to What/Who Qualifies for the Rebate:
What kind of furnace or water heater does the Rebate cover?
- Any new propane water heater (storage or tankless)
- Any new, residential propane furnace (furnace must be at least 36,000 BTU and heat the whole home)
- Any new residential propane boiler (Boilers are considered furnaces and must be at least 36,000 BTU and heat the whole home)
Does my propane furnace or water heater have to be Energy Star certified to qualify for the Rebate?
No, any propane water heater or furnace qualifies for the rebate.
What does the Installer Incentive cover?
You receive up to a $700 check when you REPLACE an old electric, wood or fuel oil water heater and furnace with a new propane water heater and furnace, or when you install in a new construction.
Can installers do an install in 2024 even though the new propane water heater and/or furnace was purchased in 2023?
Yes, installers can install appliance models from 2023 within the current year—2024.
Is there a limit to how many installer checks I can claim?
No, there is no cap to the amount of checks an installer can claim in one year. However, funds are only available while they last.
Does warranty work qualify for the Rebate?
No, the unit needs to be a new purchase. Warranty work is a replacement of the original purchased unit and therefore does not qualify.
Questions Pertaining to Installation:
I installed new propane water heaters and furnaces earlier this year, can I go back and submit applications for those installs?
Yes, you can submit any qualifying installs starting January 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024. Applications must be filled out completely and postmarked, emailed or faxed by December 31, 2024, 11:59pm EST.
I switched out an old propane water heater and/or furnace for a new propane unit(s) for a customer, do I qualify for the Rebate?
No, installers only receive a rebate when replacing an old electric, oil or wood water heater or furnace, with a new propane water heater or furnace.
Can installers do an install in 2024 using appliance models from 2023, being purchased in the current calendar year?
Yes, installers can install appliance models from 2023 in the current year, 2024.
I’m a homeowner and a licensed installer in Ohio, do I get the installer and homeowner rebate if I install it myself?
No, if you’re the homeowner and a licensed installer, you will ONLY qualify for the higher amount of the installer incentive, NOT both the installer and homeowner rebate.
I am sub-contracted through a builder, but installed a propane water heater and/or furnace in the new home, can I qualify for the Rebate?
For new-build homes, the builder or installer qualifies for the rebate even though the work is subcontracted out. However, it is up to the builder who receives the check.
What qualifies as a “New Construction” when I install a new propane water heater and/or furnace?
For an install to qualify as a “New Construction,” there must be no prior water heater or furnace, and new line documentation must be provided with a completed application and receipt of purchase/invoice.
I installed a new propane water heater and/or furnace in a cabin, which is located in Ohio, but the primary residence of my customer is in a different state. Does my customer and I still qualify for the Rebate?
Yes, fill out section 2 with your customer’s primary address, but also make sure to include the installation address on the invoice.
Can the installer perform the Propane Safety Inspection (Section 4) that is required for the Rebate?
Yes, as long as you the installer are Licensed in the state of Ohio, you can complete Section 4 of the application and sign at the bottom along with the homeowner’s signature.
Do I need to be a licensed installer to complete the Propane Safety Inspection (Section 4)?
Yes, you must be licensed by the state of Ohio to perform the Propane Safety Inspection (Section 4). If you are not licensed, then the homeowner’s propane company must come out and perform the Propane Safety Inspection.
Questions Pertaining to Submission:
Is there a time frame I need to submit my rebate application to receive my check?
Yes, your 2024 application must be postmarked, emailed or faxed by December 31, 2024, 11:59pm EST.
How soon will I receive my check after the application is submitted?
It may take up to 90 days from the time your application is processed before you receive a check by U.S. mail.
Does the installer check get written out to the installing company or the person installing the unit?
The check is made out to the installing company.
How do I send the application to the Ohio Propane Council?
You can fill out our online application, email, fax or mail the application in to the Council. The info is located on the bottom of page 2 of the application.
What is “New Line Documentation?”
New line documentation is proof of new propane lines being trenched to a home or new tank being set on the property, this document can be provided by the propane supplier in the form of a work order or invoice. It is required for any new construction or fuel switch out.
